Kairi Sane could be another major name from WWE to appear in AEW soon, though the situation still calls for caution.
In recent hours, reports have surfaced that Tony Khan and AEW have strong interest in signing the former Kabuki Warriors member. The possibility stands out because Sane left WWE on April 24, during the major round of cuts made after WrestleMania 42.
Sane’s release reportedly came as a major surprise backstage, especially because she was still involved in a storyline with Asuka and IYO SKY. According to an update based on Fightful Select, there was internal frustration over WWE ending her run before any major payoff to that storyline.
Despite rumors that Sane would not be tied to a 90-day period, that point is still not completely clear. The same update noted that, in cases involving main roster releases, talent remains under contract during the 90-day notice period, while contracts that simply expire end on their scheduled date. In other words, her immediate availability would depend on the exact nature of her WWE exit.
Even so, a move to AEW would make plenty of sense given the current state of the women’s division. Thekla, the current AEW Women’s World Champion, has already publicly commented on the possibility of Sane appearing in the company.
“She’s cool. I could totally see her in AEW.”

As Kairi is not under the 90-day non-compete timeline, she could show up on AEW Television soon 😲..

The champion also said Sane could elevate the product if given the opportunity, pointing to their shared experience in STARDOM.
Sane is a former NXT Women’s Champion, a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Asuka, and the first IWGP Women’s Champion. Her name would therefore arrive in AEW with international weight and a strong connection to the Japanese scene, something Tony Khan often values across his rosters.
