CM Punk had one of the most controversial exits in recent AEW history, but that does not mean his relationship with the company is completely destroyed.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, AEW sources responded with the familiar “never say never” when asked whether Punk had permanently burned his bridge with the company. The report indicates that some people in AEW believe the relationship could be rebuilt at some point, even if that does not necessarily mean Punk returning to wrestle for the promotion.
Punk’s exit came in September 2023, just days after All In at Wembley Stadium, when he was involved in a backstage altercation with Jack Perry. Following an internal investigation, AEW announced that his contracts had been terminated “with cause,” a decision Tony Khan said he made personally.
A few months later, Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 in Chicago, ending an absence of nearly 10 years from the company. Since then, he has moved back to the top of the card and even captured the World Heavyweight Championship again.

The AEW update comes amid several rumors surrounding Punk’s current status in WWE. However, according to PWInsider, there are no issues between the two sides. WWE is also reportedly preparing new Punk merchandise and appearances for this summer.
For now, there is no concrete sign of CM Punk returning to AEW. The more notable detail, however, is that the door does not appear to be locked forever.
The question now is whether, with time, Punk and AEW can turn one of the most traumatic splits in company history into a relationship that is at least somewhat peaceful.
