CM Punk remains away from WWE programming, but he gave another hint that his return could happen on Friday Night SmackDown.
On Friday night, Punk was part of the Cage Fury Fighting Championships broadcast at Hard Rock Casino Rockford in Illinois, once again working commentary for the event.
During the broadcast, his fellow commentators promoted an upcoming CFFC show and asked whether Punk would be there. When he found out the event was set for a Friday, the “Second City Saint” left the answer open-ended.
“Is that a Friday? I don’t know. It’s a Friday? I don’t know if I can make it.”
The comment stood out because SmackDown airs on Friday nights. It also comes after previous reports indicated that WWE has plans to move Punk to the blue brand when he returns to television.
The idea, according to the report, would be to balance the rosters, with RAW currently featuring names such as Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, The Usos, Jacob Fatu, Oba Femi, Logan Paul and Bron Breakker. On SmackDown, Punk would join a top tier that already includes Cody Rhodes, Gunther, Rhea Ripley, Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre.
Punk has not appeared on WWE programming since the RAW after WrestleMania 42, when he had a verbal confrontation with Cody Rhodes and teased a future Undisputed WWE Championship match.
Even so, there is still a possibility that Punk could appear on the July 6 episode of RAW, which will take place at Allstate Arena in Chicago.
