CM Punk has already worked out part of what he’ll bring to the ring for one of the biggest matches of his current WWE run. The Undisputed WWE Champion has revealed he’s preparing special gear for SummerSlam, though he hasn’t said yet what the theme will be.

In a recent interview with Ringside Collectibles, Punk explained that he usually doesn’t plan his gear far in advance, and that the location of the event tends to shape his choices.

Punk said:

“I really don’t plan too far ahead. Most of the stuff, you’ve got to wait and see based on location, I think.

SummerSlam is around the corner, I’ve got some cool gear planned for SummerSlam, then after that, I really have no idea.”

Punk will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes on Saturday, August 1, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The match is part of Night 1 of the show and will be the first one-on-one match between the two in nearly 18 years.

The “Best in the World” won the title on July 6 in Chicago, stepping in for Rhodes and defeating Sami Zayn. Rhodes had been pulled from the match after Gunther attacked him, and he later earned a shot at the title.

The gear choice also stands out because of Punk’s recent history at the event. At SummerSlam 2025, he wore Fantastic Four-inspired gear during his win over Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. Minutes later, though, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and ended Punk’s reign.

One year earlier, against Drew McIntyre, Punk wore gear modeled on Bret Hart’s look from SummerSlam 1997.
