Add as a preferred source on Google CM Punk set his sights on Dominik Mysterio during San Diego Comic-Con. At the WWE and Mattel panel, the Best in the World spoke with Rey Mysterio, AAA’s current General Manager, and teased a match for the AAA Mega Championship at Worlds Collide.
“AAA has a show coming up in Chicago, right?”
“Yes, they do.”
“So… does Dominik need an opponent?”
“Why… yes, he does.”
The brief exchange was presented as a tease, not an official announcement. As of now, no match has been confirmed for Punk at the September 26 event, which will bring together WWE, AAA, and NXT at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
The venue makes the possibility even more meaningful. Punk defeated John Cena at that same arena during the 2011 Money in the Bank to win the WWE Championship, one of the most important moments of his career.
Dominik won the AAA Mega Championship at Worlds Collide on September 12, 2025, defeating El Hijo del Vikingo. After the match, Rey was forced to put the title around his own son’s waist.
Punk and Dominik, though, already have a considerable history outside of television. The two met in live events on December 26 and December 30, 2023, Punk’s first matches since returning to WWE, along with two more bouts in Melbourne and Tokyo in October 2025. Punk won every time, though the final two ended in disqualification.
If made official, the Worlds Collide match would mark the first televised singles match between the two and give Punk his first shot at AAA’s top championship.
