Sheamus has become one of the biggest names on the open market after closing out a nearly 20-year run with WWE. The Irishman turned down a restructured contract offer, and with his deal now expired, he can sign with any company immediately, no 90-day non-compete required.
Appearing on TMZ Inside the Ring, Karl Anderson said AEW should sign Sheamus right away, largely because of the former WWE Champion’s style.
“If I was writing for AEW, I would book Sheamus immediately cause I think he would go in there and have some awesome matches cause he hits hard. He makes people angry cause he hits so hard.”
Luke Gallows agreed. From there, the two started dreaming up a debut, with Sheamus showing up out of nowhere to attack MJF.
“If the arena goes dark and he comes on and pump kick’s his (MJF) head off, people are gonna lose their shit.”
MJF wasn’t a random pick. Right after news of Sheamus’s WWE exit broke, the former AEW World Champion dug up an old war of words between the two and posted “Bring that smoke O’Shaunessy,” a nod to the name the Irishman worked under before arriving in WWE.
MJF dropped the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega at Dynamite Beach Break on July 8.
Anderson and Gallows aren’t alone, either. Jim Ross has also made the case for AEW signing Sheamus, pointing to a possible reunion with Claudio Castagnoli, his old partner in The Bar.
