Jack Perry is staying with AEW, but the new deal wasn’t finalized until the segment aired on last Wednesday’s Dynamite: Beach Break, July 8.

AEW aired a video package looking back at Perry’s entire journey with the company since its founding. Perry discussed his goals, said he wants to win the world title, and appeared alongside Tony Khan to make his new deal official.

According to Fightful Select, the scene wasn’t just a segment created for TV. Perry actually put pen to paper during the taping, and he had not signed a new deal before that moment.

“Jack Perry’s contract signing was legitimate, and we’re told it was the actual contract being signed on the AEW segment. He had not re-signed prior to that.”

The situation had been developing since June, when reports first surfaced that Perry’s contract was close to expiring. Even without a new deal in place, he continued appearing regularly on AEW programming and even faced Zack Sabre Jr. on Dynamite ahead of Forbidden Door.

Tony Khan had already publicly indicated that Perry would remain with the company. During the Forbidden Door media call, the AEW President said the plan was to keep Perry with AEW for a long time.
