Triple H remains firmly in charge of WWE creative, but not everyone believes that is a reason to celebrate.
As POST Wrestling reported, Nick Khan said during an internal TKO meeting that Paul Levesque signed a new multi-year deal to remain with the company, with Levesque being treated internally as WWE’s head of creative.
On the company’s corporate website, Levesque is listed as Chief Content Officer, responsible for areas such as creative writing, talent relations, live events, and development.
The new deal received public support from Eric Bischoff, who said on 83 Weeks that Triple H not only deserved another contract, but also a raise, especially for dealing with TKO interference in major company plans.
Vince Russo, however, does not agree with that view. During an appearance on Coach and Bro, the former writer directly questioned what Triple H has done recently to deserve a pay raise.
“I read an article today about Eric Bischoff and his show 83 Weeks—and I’m even plugging it for him, 83 Weeks. But the article was about Eric Bischoff saying that Triple H deserves a raise. And I’m reading this, and I’m like, ‘Okay, listen, bro—I understand. It’s a Hall of Fame club. I get all that. But I keep asking this question over and over again—Triple H deserves a raise based on what? Like seriously, what has this guy done for that company where he deserves a raise?’”
“The television numbers are down. I was reading yesterday—Netflix, 1.7 over the entire week—the lowest number since February.”
“Then we’ve got the interview where he’s saying, ‘We have no backups.’ In the same interview, he’s saying, ‘I don’t know if the audience is going to boo or cheer.’ So you’re saying, ‘I have no idea who the audience is.’”
Russo also pointed to WWE’s recent wave of releases, which included names such as Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Kairi Sane, Santos Escobar, and the Motor City Machine Guns.
In his view, if the company hired those names and failed to develop them, that responsibility also needs to fall on the creative leadership.
