Add as a preferred source on Google John Cena revealed a new detail about his last match against AJ Styles at Crown Jewel, held November 10, 2025, at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.
During the third season of WWE: Unreal, released this Tuesday on Netflix, Cena said the RKO he hit on Styles wasn’t part of the plan for the match. The call came in the middle of the bout, after the crowd started chanting for it.
Cena explained:
“In the match, the crowd started calling moves. I wasn’t gonna RKO him. They were chanting for it, so here we go.”
The RKO wasn’t the only spot decided by the crowd’s reaction. At another point, fans began chanting for Rey Mysterio’s 619. Cena didn’t want to complete the move, though, and told Styles to cut him off with a clothesline before it was finished.
The improvisation had already been hinted at by Styles himself. In May, the Phenomenal One said no moves were set before the match and that Cena simply took charge of calling the whole thing.
Besides the RKO, Cena used moves associated with The Miz, Chris Jericho, Bray Wyatt and The Undertaker. Styles answered with tributes to Sting, Shawn Michaels and other names tied to his career. The match lasted 27 minutes and 12 seconds, ending with a Tombstone Piledriver followed by the Attitude Adjustment.
As it turned out, the match itself also came together because of the fans. Cena was originally scheduled to face Drew McIntyre in Perth, but those plans changed after he noticed the crowd’s reaction to Styles’ name during a segment in Dublin with Logan Paul.
Cena and Styles arrived at Crown Jewel tied 2-2 in their series. The win in Perth closed out the rivalry with Cena ahead, 3-2.
