John Cena has no intention of letting “Fear My Name” see the light of day. Speaking at John Cena Live during Fan Expo Canada in Toronto on Sunday, August 30, the now-retired star explained that he doesn’t want a scrapped idea turned into fuel for fans to fantasy-book what his heel character could have been.
“The reason I don’t want it to get released is because y’all will spin a narrative in your head of what could have been. It wasn’t. What we had was what we had. Some things and some ideas can stay mine, and that’s okay.”
The track dates back to WWE‘s plans to turn Cena heel during his feud with The Rock in 2012. In a 2024 interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Cena revealed that he recorded a new entrance theme and put together seven singlets plus boxing robes in just 48 hours. “Fear My Name” replaced the iconic trumpets from “The Time Is Now” with saxophones.
The plans got pretty far along. WWE trademarked “Fear My Name” on December 14, 2011, covering pro wrestling services, merchandise, and music.
Interest in the track picked back up when Cena finally turned heel at Elimination Chamber 2025, attacking Cody Rhodes following a signal from The Rock. Even so, his traditional entrance theme stayed in place throughout the heel run.
At this week’s Q&A, Cena also revealed that the full concept included new gear, a different walk, new mannerisms, and even a deliberately irritating in-ring style. He said there simply wasn’t enough time left on his farewell tour to fully flesh out that version of the character.
