The office of London Mayor Sadiq Khan denied that there are any negotiations to bring WWE WrestleMania 44 to the city in 2028, despite years of speculation on the topic.
According to POST Wrestling, Tom Degun of the economic desk in Khan’s office confirmed by email that there are “general discussions” with WWE, but no concrete progress regarding the 2028 edition of the Showcase of the Immortals.
The representative, however, stressed that the mayor remains “determined to bring even more international sports to London, including the biggest WWE events,” and that talks about future opportunities are still ongoing.
Speculation about a WrestleMania in London picked up steam in July 2023, when John Cena, at Money in the Bank held at the O2 Arena, made a public plea for the event to be brought to the English capital.
In 2024, Sadiq Khan met in person with Nick Khan and Triple H to discuss the matter. While London remains in the discussion stage only, Nashville, Tennessee appears to be well ahead in the race for WrestleMania 44.
According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, the city submitted a $3.5 million bid, along with tax incentives, to host the event at the new Nissan Stadium, set to open in 2027.
Ireland also recently entered the conversation. Councillor Maurice Shortall of Kilkenny argued that the country is in a position to put together a competitive bid. Fightful Select, however, described the idea as a “long-term project,” noting that Ireland would need to match the $6 million Las Vegas paid to host WrestleMania 42.
It’s worth remembering that WrestleMania 43 in 2027 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, making it the first edition outside of North America in the event’s history.
