Kaitlyn, a former WWE Divas Champion, revealed that Total Divas had a direct influence on creative decisions in the women’s division, despite a backstage promise made by Vince McMahon.
Appearing on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, the former WWE star said McMahon had assured the women’s roster that the E! reality series would not affect WWE storylines. According to Kaitlyn, that changed as WrestleMania 29 approached.
Kaitlyn was the Divas Champion at the time, but she was left off the card for the event, which took place on April 7, 2013, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In a previous interview with Rewind Recap Relive, she had already said that Total Divas took the spot that could have been used for the women’s division at WrestleMania.

The former champion also pointed out that the situation created a split backstage between the women who were part of the reality show and those who were not. According to Kaitlyn, Fit Finlay was one of the few people helping put together women’s matches, but when he stepped away from that role for a stretch, the environment became even more difficult.
WWE later leaned into that separation on television. At Survivor Series 2013, Team Total Divas defeated AJ Lee, Tamina Snuka, Kaitlyn, Rosa Mendes, Summer Rae, Aksana, and Alicia Fox in a match built around the women from the reality series against the rest of the Divas.
Kaitlyn officially left WWE on January 8, 2014, when the company announced that she was no longer under contract.
