Add as a preferred source on Google Trick Williams will have a major challenge on the next episode of WWE SmackDown, but at least for now, he will not be putting the United States Championship on the line.
On Friday’s episode, which was taped in Atlantic City, Williams came to the ring with Lil Yachty but was interrupted by Carmelo Hayes. The former champion said the United States Championship should represent hungry competitors and asked for another opportunity at the title.
Lil Yachty asked the crowd whether Hayes should get a title match. Williams eventually agreed to face Hayes next week, but made it clear that the United States Championship would not be on the line.
The match will take place on the July 10 episode of SmackDown from Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
After the match was confirmed, Hayes attacked Williams and Lil Yachty, closing out the featured segment. The confrontation continues a rivalry that has been building for months.
Hayes and Ricky Saints had been battling for position in the United States Championship picture until Saints won their series and became Williams’ challenger at Night of Champions.
At the premium live event on June 27, Williams defeated Saints to retain the title. The win came after a Trick Shot.
With that, Hayes is back in Williams’ path without receiving a direct title shot, apparently needing to earn that opportunity first.
