The latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown featured a curious backstage detail within WWE. The July 3 episode, which was taped in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was internally titled “WrestleZania.”

According to Fightful Select, the name appeared alongside the list of writers and producers for the show. It was not used on the broadcast and served only as an internal production identifier.

The choice stood out given the current situation surrounding Sami Zayn. The Canadian made his first SmackDown appearance as Undisputed WWE Champion, just days after defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a Triple Threat Match at Night of Champions to win the first world title of his WWE career.

In the opening segment, Zayn was interrupted by Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, leading Adam Pearce to make a No. 1 Contender’s Match between the two for later in the night. In the main event, Rhodes defeated Jey and earned another opportunity at the Undisputed WWE Championship against Zayn on this Monday’s RAW in Chicago.

Among the names listed for SmackDown’s production, Jamie Noble produced the segment involving Zayn, Rhodes, and Jey, as well as the main event between Cody and Uso. Shawn Daivari produced Rey Fenix vs. El Hijo del Vikingo, while Jason Jordan and Molly Holly worked on the Six-Woman Tag Team Match.

Curiously, the June 29 episode of Monday Night RAW did not have an internal title listed, making “WrestleZania” even more notable within WWE’s TV week.
