Matt Cardona made it clear he hasn’t forgotten what went down with Chelsea Green on Friday’s SmackDown. Hours after his loss to Gunther, Cardona dropped Will Smith’s famous line to send a message to the Ring General.
The situation unfolded during Friday’s SmackDown in Boston, Massachusetts. Nick Aldis initially asked Green to hand over the Interim WWE Women’s Championship due to a recent orbital fracture, but he reversed course and gave the champion a 30-day window to obtain medical clearance and defend the title.
Gunther came out shortly after and began mocking Green, belittling her SummerSlam title win and telling the champion to shut her mouth. Cardona hit the ring to stand up for his wife, sparking a brawl that was quickly turned into an impromptu match.
Cardona came close to pulling it off, but Gunther rallied with multiple powerbombs and locked in a Boston Crab to force the tap-out.
On Saturday, Cardona posted a series of images from SmackDown to his Instagram with one line:
“Keep my wife’s name out your f*****g mouth!”
The quote is a direct callback to the 2022 Oscars, when Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian cracked a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
The loss also appears to have lit a fire under Cardona. In a separate post-show statement, he said he needed the beating from Gunther to “wake up.”
