Maxxine Dupri Fires Back at WWE Unreal Critics: “If You Don’t Want to Watch Something, Don’t Watch It”

Maxxine Dupri has entered the ongoing WWE Unreal debate, defending the Netflix series for bringing to light details that were kept from pro wrestling fans for decades.

In a recent interview with WittyWhittier, Dupri explained that her own connection to WWE was shaped by Total Divas, which is why she has no problem with content that shows the other side of the business.

“I fell in love with this from Total Divas, so I’m always going to stand 10 toes down with anything that shows that other side of our business because I personally just really enjoy that.”

Dupri also pushed back on the idea that fans are being shown too much, noting that only a small fraction of what gets filmed ever makes it to Netflix.

“They’re filming all year. So, there’s hours and hours and hours of footage for these six episodes, right? So, it’s like even though people think, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re seeing too much,’ or this and that, like you’re still just getting a little taste.”

The discussion picked up even more steam after WWE Unreal Season 3 dropped on July 21. The new episodes once again feature the writers’ room and backstage decision-making, following storylines involving John Cena, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, AJ Lee, Oba Femi, and Bron Breakker on the road to WrestleMania 42.

Maxxine’s position, however, is far from universally shared. AJ Styles recently argued that fans haven’t earned the right to know everything that happens backstage, while JBL called WWE Unreal too inside for viewers.

Trick Williams, on the other hand, has said he welcomes the production cameras and believes showing his personality outside of WWE TV can bring him even closer to fans.

Maxxine went even further when responding to critics:

“At the end of the day, I don’t know why everyone’s up in arms. If you don’t want to watch something, don’t watch it. Do you have no willpower? No self-discipline? Like, my goodness, it’s crazy.”

“I think it’s an incredible show and if you don’t like it, hit next.”
