Add as a preferred source on Google Nikki Bella is still processing the crushing disappointment of missing WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas after suffering an ankle injury on the Road to WrestleMania.
WWE confirmed during the event that Nikki was not medically cleared to compete, opening the door for Paige’s surprise return. Paige replaced the Hall of Famer alongside Brie Bella in the Fatal 4-Way Match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Speaking in a recent interview with the Battleground Podcast, Nikki revealed that she got extremely emotional while introducing Paige as her replacement, to the point that she stumbled over one of the words during the announcement.
“Super emotional. I couldn’t even say ‘medically’ right. I messed it up. Nobody ever tells you but the echo in stadiums, it’s like I was talking to myself.
“The words were hitting me back in the face. I was like ‘Wait, why wasn’t I warned? I’m so emotional right now!'”
Paige and Brie went on to win the match, defeating Nia Jax and Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria to capture the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
This marked Paige’s first WWE match in more than eight years. According to Paige herself, making her return had always been a goal, as she considers WWE her home.
