Rey Fenix hit an unwanted mark on Friday Night SmackDown. Yesterday, May 2, marked exactly one year since his last singles victory on WWE’s blue brand.

That final singles win came on May 2, 2025. He defeated Santos Escobar in a match WWE itself praised heavily.

He has won on the brand since then, but only in tag team action. His most recent SmackDown victory came on October 3, 2025. He teamed with Je’Von Evans to beat Los Garza, closing it out with a Mexican Destroyer on Berto.

Since that night, his SmackDown run has been defined by high-profile losses. Trick Williams beat him in January during his own SmackDown debut. Later that month, Carmelo Hayes retained the United States Championship over Fenix in an Open Challenge.

Williams beat Fenix again in February. The back-to-back defeats extended the former AEW star’s cold streak on WWE weekly television.

The slide stands out because of how Fenix arrived. WWE bills him as one of the most talented luchadores in the world and a globally decorated champion.

It remains to be seen whether WWE plans to rebuild Fenix on SmackDown or keep using him as a high-level name to elevate other talent.
