WWE has no plans to drop celebrities from its storylines anytime soon, even after heavy fan backlash at WrestleMania 42.
According to Fightful Select, company sources said they were extremely happy with every celebrity involvement at the premium live event. The report notes those crossovers should scale back after WrestleMania season, but they will not stop entirely and could return as early as the North American summer.
At WrestleMania 42, IShowSpeed teamed with Logan Paul and Austin Theory against The Usos and LA Knight. He even hit a big splash on Paul through the commentary table after the match.
Lil Yachty also appeared alongside Trick Williams during his United States Championship win over Sami Zayn. Meanwhile, WWE worked Jelly Roll and Pat McAfee directly into the feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.
Fans reacted loudly, though. Jelly Roll later joked that he and McAfee had no business being at WrestleMania, even if that was not an admission of real regret.
The report added that the company has not locked in any names for future plans. WWE previously discussed Tom Brady internally, but his appearance never came together.
So despite the social media criticism, WWE still views celebrity involvement as a positive way to expand its reach beyond the traditional pro-wrestling audience.
