Rhea Ripley has given a very positive sign about her recovery from the injury that has kept her out of WWE action for more than a month.
The reigning WWE Women’s Champion made an appearance this past Thursday, July 16, at Fanatics Fest NYC, held at the Javits Center in New York City. Images from the event show Ripley walking normally, with no visible protection on her injured knee.
The moment drew plenty of attention, especially since Ripley had revealed just days earlier that she’d suffered a minor tear in her meniscus. She said the knee is getting stronger, but she still has trouble bending it fully and making lateral movements. So far, there’s no timetable for her return.
The injury occurred during the run of WWE Clash in Italy. Ripley defeated Jade Cargill at the May 31 event to retain the WWE Women’s Championship. WWE later confirmed she was being evaluated after feeling something in her knee during the company’s trip to Italy.
Even though she’s able to walk without any major limitations, Ripley still isn’t cleared for more intense physical activity. A matchup against Rob Gronkowski at the Fanatics Games was pulled from the card due to the injury. Her autograph and photo session, however, stayed on the schedule and sold out completely.
Appearing without a knee brace marks an important step forward, but it doesn’t confirm an immediate return. SummerSlam takes place August 1-2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and Ripley has not yet been announced for a match.
