Thekla, the current AEW Women’s World Champion, admitted that one of the toughest parts of adjusting to AEW has been controlling her profanity during matches.
During a recent appearance on The Sal Licata Show, “The Toxic Spider” said she speaks several languages, but wrestling without cursing almost feels like “speaking another language.”
According to Thekla, when the volume is turned up during her matches and fans can almost make out what she is saying, there is a good chance she is using profanity.
Asked whether she has gotten in trouble for it, the champion said she has not, at least not yet. In her view, AEW seems to understand that it is part of how she expresses herself.
“They tried to tell me that I shouldn’t be saying ‘bitch.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, sure.’ Then, the next time, they wanted me to say ‘bitch’ twice in the same sentence.”
Thekla spoke about her cursing in AEW.

In the United States, the main card will begin at 8 PM ET, with the Buy In starting one hour earlier at 7 PM ET. The event will air on pay-per-view through HBO Max and other digital platforms.
