Tommaso Ciampa is the new AEW National Champion. On Saturday’s Collision, he won a title rematch against Andrade El Idolo.
The show aired live on TNT and HBO Max from the Rock ’N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea, Chris Jericho’s cruise in Miami, Florida, and it was AEW’s first time there since January 2020.
The title match was a rematch from WrestleDream three weeks ago in Orlando, where Andrade retained against Ciampa. That night, Andrade hit Ciampa’s own finisher, Willow’s Bell, onto the title belt and followed with The DM to get the win.
After the loss, Ciampa admitted that he didn’t take Andrade seriously in Orlando. A week later, he attacked Andrade on Collision, and on October 31, he beat Matt Sydal to earn the rematch.
The finish saw Ciampa counter The DM twice, the second time with a back body drop. Ciampa then rolled Andrade up for the pin.
After the match, Ciampa celebrated with his daughter, Willow, and put the belt on her shoulder.
The win gives Ciampa his second title in AEW. In his AEW debut match on January 31, he beat Mark Briscoe to win the TNT Championship and lost the title to Kyle Fletcher just 11 days later. Since then, he lost title matches to Darby Allin, Kazuchika Okada, and Andrade himself.
Andrade’s title reign ends at 104 days, in his ninth defense.
