Sheamus is moving closer to leaving WWE, bringing an almost two-decade run with the company to an end.

As we previously reported here at Wrestling Noticias, the Irish star turned down a restructured extension offer while he was sidelined with an injury, and his current contract is nearing its end.

Because his deal is expiring, Sheamus is not expected to be subject to the traditional 90-day non-compete clause. That means that, if his exit is confirmed, he would be able to sign with another company immediately.

Amid the reaction, Vince Russo placed blame on Triple H while discussing the situation on The Coach and Bro Show.

“We have been talking about this for a very, very long time — TKO versus WWE. Those contracts were given out by WWE. Triple H had a lot to say about those contracts.”

Russo also pointed to the long relationship between Sheamus and Triple H, suggesting that history may have played a role in the former WWE Champion being taken care of under the company’s previous model.

“And Coach, you and I both know it’s good ol’ boy… I think Triple H is the one who found Sheamus in the gym somewhere. So you go all the way back to that history, and they’re boys. Of course Triple H is going to make sure he’s taken care of.”

In Russo’s view, TKO has started to get a better understanding of who actually generates financial return and who needs to have their contract adjusted.

“Now we are seeing TKO smarten up a little bit to the wrestling business. They got involved in the booking, and now I bet you they’re seeing a lot of guys on the books that, you know, three years ago, they didn’t know what the guy was worth, so it was okay.”

“But looking at it today, where you’ve got a little bit of an education, man, bro, we’ve got to restructure this deal. I’m on their side on this one.”

Sheamus recently changed his social media accounts to “S. Farrelly,” his real name, and now lists himself only as a “Pro Wrestler.” His profile has also been moved to the Alumni section.
