Stephanie Vaquer had a historic night, winning back the Women’s World Championship in front of fans in her home country at a WWE live event in Santiago, Chile. Not everyone was happy with how it happened, though.
Vaquer defeated Liv Morgan at the September 12 show, ending a reign that began at WrestleMania 42. Becky Lynch served as the Special Guest Referee and played a direct role in the outcome.
Morgan hit the ObLivion and appeared to have the match won, but Lynch stopped her count at two and flipped off the then-champion. Vaquer took advantage, fought back, and captured the title for the second time in her career.
Triple H celebrated Vaquer’s win on social media. The post quickly drew criticism from fans, mostly over a world title changing hands at an untelevised event and Lynch’s decisive interference.
One fan praised the idea of crowning Vaquer in her home country but criticized the finish:
“Having Steph win in Chile, brilliant. Having Steph win by ref Becky not calling it, terrible.”
Another put the blame on Triple H:
“No way Liv should lose like that. Trash HHH.”

The title change came just five days after Morgan defeated Vaquer on Monday Night RAW, when Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez interfered in the match. Adam Pearce then booked a rematch for Santiago and named Lynch as the special referee. Vaquer had also faced Morgan at the live event in Buenos Aires the night before, again coming up short.
The show also marked WWE’s first event in Chile in seven years.
