Stephanie Vaquer is champion again.
Vaquer defeated Liv Morgan in Santiago, Chile, on Saturday, September 12, to win the WWE Women’s World Championship for the second time.
The match took place at Movistar Arena as part of a WWE live event, with Becky Lynch serving as the special guest referee. Lynch’s role proved decisive in the title change.
Down the stretch, Morgan hit the ObLivion and appeared to have the match won. Lynch, however, didn’t finish the count and taunted Morgan instead. Vaquer took advantage, regained control and won the match.
After the victory, Lynch raised the new champion’s hand and the two embraced.
The match was set up after what happened on the September 7 episode of RAW. Vaquer had another title shot that night, but Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez interfered on Morgan’s behalf. Perez handed the belt to Morgan, who used it as a weapon before hitting the ObLivion to retain.
Vaquer had lost the title to Morgan at WrestleMania 42 on April 18, ending her first reign at 210 days. Since returning from injury this summer, La Primera had made it clear that winning back the Women’s World Championship was her top priority.
With the loss, Morgan’s reign ends at 147 days. Vaquer begins her second run as WWE Women’s World Champion in front of fans in her home country.
