Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave 5.75 stars to the Mask vs. Mask match between El Grande Americano and Original El Grande Americano at AAA Noche de Los Grandes. With that rating, the bout became the highest-rated WWE-affiliated match in Meltzer’s history.
The match took place on May 30 at Arena Monterrey in Mexico and ended with El Grande Americano picking up the win. After the loss, Original El Grande Americano removed his mask and revealed himself as Chad Gable.
Before this rating, the highest mark for a WWE match in Meltzer’s history was 5.5 stars. Now, the bout between the Americanos has surpassed that record and moved directly into the conversation among the decade’s highest-rated pro-wrestling matches.

The match was presented as a major main event. It featured a mariachi entrance, a no-disqualification stipulation, blood, interference from the Creed Brothers, appearances by Bravo, Ojitos de Huevo, Pimpinela Escarlata, and Andrea Bazarte, and an extremely strong reaction from the Mexican crowd in the closing stretch.
Meltzer had already publicly praised the match shortly after the event, saying that anyone who had not seen it yet should seek it out, calling the performance one of the great ones in history.
With the win and the historic rating, El Grande Americano leaves Noche de Los Grandes as one of the hottest names in pro wrestling. Gable, meanwhile, lost his mask but left Mexico with one of the biggest performances of his career.
