Adam Copeland has once again opened up about the creation of The Judgment Day, the group that started in WWE in 2022 and went on to become one of the company’s top projects in the years that followed.
Speaking with SHAK Wrestling, Copeland revealed that Vince McMahon wanted him to lead a stable inspired by The Brood, the group featuring Edge, Christian, and Gangrel during the Attitude Era. The surprise came when the then-Edge immediately picked Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley for the original lineup.
“Vince said ‘I want you to start a group, and I want it to be like The Brood.’ And I went ‘Ok, ok.’ So I’m thinking three people and he said ‘Who would that be?’ I was like ‘Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley.’ No hesitation. Those are the two people that could make this a pretty cool group I think. He was kind of surprised by that, which made me realize that he didn’t realize what he had in those two, and I thought that was a shame.”
Adam Copeland says Vince McMahon was surprised by him choosing WWE's Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley for The Judgment Day, which told him that Vince "didn't realize what he had" in both stars:

Priest joined Copeland shortly after WrestleMania 38, while Ripley was added soon after, before Finn Bálor’s arrival. However, the original direction was quickly accelerated, with Copeland himself being kicked out of the group on the RAW after Hell in a Cell 2022.
Copeland’s read on the situation proved accurate over time. Ripley became one of WWE’s biggest women’s stars, winning the 2023 Royal Rumble and holding multiple world titles. Priest, meanwhile, won Money in the Bank in 2023, the World Heavyweight Championship, and multiple tag team titles.
Even after Copeland’s exit, The Judgment Day remained one of WWE’s top stables, going through several internal changes while keeping Priest and Ripley as two of the most important names to come out of that original lineup.
