Adam Copeland and Christian Cage had a symbolic moment at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, held last Sunday (June 28) at SAP Center in San Jose, California.
The duo defended the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Dogs, the team of David Finlay and Clark Connors, and retained the titles.
It marked the first time since WWF Royal Rumble 2001 that Copeland and Christian defended tag team titles together on pay-per-view. Back then, still wrestling as Edge and Christian, they put the WWF Tag Team Championship on the line against The Dudley Boyz, losing after Edge was hit with a 3D.
One interesting detail is that on January 21, 2001, the date of that year’s Royal Rumble, Finlay and Connors were only seven years old, while White was eight.
As previously reported, White returned at Forbidden Door after more than a year away, appearing in the closing moments of the match. “Switchblade” hit Finlay with a Blade Runner, clearing the way for Copeland to finish the match with a Spear and secure the win.
