Add as a preferred source on Google AEW has announced the Continental Cup, a new annual tournament that will run this summer.
The Cup is a 16-man single-elimination bracket, with the final set for All In on 8/30 at Wembley Stadium in London. The winner takes the Cup and walks out of Wembley as AEW Continental Champion, so the title is on the line throughout.
Reigning champion Jon Moxley, Nigel McGuinness, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong are the first names announced. That leaves 11 spots to fill.
Moxley teased the tournament on Wednesday’s Dynamite in Detroit, shortly after tapping out Komander with the bulldog choke to retain the Continental Title. The Death Riders leader said he has no idea who he’ll be facing, but made it clear he’s fine putting the reign on the line.
The Cup isn’t a replacement for the Continental Classic. The C2 remains a 12-man round-robin split into the Gold and Blue Leagues, running from late November to the final at Worlds End. The Cup is 16 men, straight single-elimination.
The groundwork was laid months ago. AEW filed to trademark “Continental Cup” with the USPTO on 3/16 for pro wrestling events and programming, with no word at the time on how it would be used.
Moxley has held the Continental Title since 12/27/25, when he beat Kazuchika Okada in the Continental Classic final at Worlds End.
