AEW still does not appear to be headed to Madison Square Garden, despite recent speculation about the company potentially making its debut at the legendary New York venue.

According to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, the current MSG management has not been willing to let AEW into the building. Johnson noted that it remains to be seen if and when that changes.

The situation picked up steam because several AEW names have mentioned Madison Square Garden again recently, fueling the idea of a possible major event for the company in Manhattan.

However, recent history shows that things between the two sides have never moved forward. Tony Khan revealed in December that Madison Square Garden had offered to host the first AEW Dynamite in October 2019, but the offer was later pulled.

Since then, AEW has built its New York presence away from MSG. The first Grand Slam took place at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens in 2021, marking the first wrestling event held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The company will return to that same complex this Sunday, May 24, for Double or Nothing, which will be held at Louis Armstrong Stadium. The show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will air in the United States on pay-per-view and HBO Max PPV.

As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding an AEW event at Madison Square Garden. For the time being, the expectation is that AEW will continue using Queens as its main base inside New York City.
