AJ Styles, who ended his in-ring career with WWE in 2026, has once again ruled out the possibility of facing Kenny Omega in a major match.

A bout between the two has long been viewed by many fans as one of the biggest dream matches that never happened in a major promotion.

On a recent edition of the Phenomenally Retro Podcast, Styles was asked which AEW name he would like to face if it were still possible. His answer was Omega, but he made it clear he was not optimistic.

“The same dream match everybody wants to see against Kenny Omega. The match that’s never going to happen unless something crazy happens. Kenny is my friend, so it would be fun to be in the ring with him, but that’s not going to happen.”

Styles and Omega previously shared the ring in NJPW in January 2016, when they defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and YOSHI-HASHI at New Year Dash. Shortly after that, Omega led the Bullet Club turn against Styles.

The “Phenomenal One” left NJPW soon after and debuted in WWE later in 2016, beginning a ten-year run with the company. In 2026, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Omega, meanwhile, remains active in AEW and is advertised for the Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing, which takes place this Sunday, May 24, in Queens, New York.
