AJ Styles has opened up again about his brawl with LA Knight during a WWE WrestleMania 40 press event in Philadelphia, making it clear the moment did not play out the right way.

Speaking on his Phenomenally Retro podcast, Styles said the situation should not have reached the point it did, especially because there was no security ready to separate them.

“They didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know it was going to happen. So yeah, it was not a good thing—let’s just say that. Not a good thing. It’s not what I wanted.”

“But then when LA Knight came over and headlocked me—that’s not good. That’s not a good idea. I was good with walking away and being the heel. Didn’t happen.”

Knight had previously said on Insight with Chris Van Vliet that he also expected security to step in quickly, but the brawl went on longer than expected. According to him, both men received a call from WWE after the incident.

The rivalry officially ended days later, when Knight defeated Styles on the second night of WrestleMania 40.
