Add as a preferred source on Google AJ Styles thinks WWE‘s roster overhaul could create a bigger problem than the company expects. The WWE Hall of Famer said WWE is taking too much experience out of the locker room as it makes room for younger talent.
Speaking on his The AJ Styles Show, Styles discussed the April 24 round of cuts, when at least 15 talents left the company, including Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, The Motor City Machine Guns and every member of The Wyatt Sicks.
“I don’t know. I mean, again, WWE seems to be moving in a different direction as far as younger talent. So, to me, that sounds like the direction that we’re going. It’s time to get out the old, get in the new. It doesn’t mean that’s always a good thing because you need experience to be really good in this wrestling business. You need that experience. Very few can get in here within a couple years and understand what it’s like and what you need to be to be a top star. I don’t know how well this is going to work out in the end because you’re losing a lot of experienced talent.”
Styles also brought up The Wyatt Sicks as an act that debuted with a presentation unlike anything else on the show, then lost steam before being scrapped.
“They had so much going for them coming in. The music was cool. Everything about it was different. It had Bray Wyatt vibes. It worked, and then it didn’t. I don’t know what happened.”
Styles has a closer view of the roster than most because of his backstage role. Since retiring from in-ring competition, he has scouted independent talent, worked with WWE ID and talked with wrestlers in NXT and on the main roster about development and morale.
In May, Styles told the released talent not to let the business destroy who they are.
