Add as a preferred source on Google AJ Styles doesn’t think Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will have Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam main event to themselves.
On the latest episode of his Phenomenally Retro Podcast, Styles broke down the World Heavyweight Title match on night two and said WWE has to add a wrinkle, given that the former Shield brothers know each other inside out and have already worked plenty of singles matches together.
“Roman ain’t going to settle for number two. But we’re talking about the workhorse. That’s freaking Seth Rollins. So, two guys who aren’t going to settle for less. It’s going to be, as J.R. would say, a slobberknocker. I think they’ll do some good stuff. They know each other very well. Their timing is going to be good. I think it’s going to be a great match. I think shenanigans happen because we do have Paul Heyman. What is that? Does anybody come out that we didn’t expect to come out? What is this? Is there someone new? Is there someone we signed that nobody knew about? I’m just throwing all kinds of smoke and mirrors out there. Because here’s the thing: we’ve seen this match before, and so we’ve got to spice it up and do something a little different. I’d love to see Seth Rollins give Paul Heyman something, too. I know he’s done it before, which I enjoyed. But I don’t know. We’ll have to see.”
Styles then went a step further and pitched a specific finish, with Heyman sending Bron Breakker out to take Reigns out and the Spear catching Rollins by mistake.
“Paul Heyman, being jealous of the fact he’s not with Roman anymore, sends Bron Breakker to take Roman out? Interesting. Or does Bron go to take Roman out but hit Seth? Roman takes him out. Boom.”
The pitch isn’t far-fetched. Breakker isn’t booked for SummerSlam despite holding the World Tag Team Titles with Austin Theory, he’s still aligned with Heyman in The Vision, and he teamed with Theory on this past Monday’s Raw.
Reigns and Rollins haven’t met one-on-one since the 2022 Royal Rumble. Rollins holds the edge in their singles series with five wins to Reigns’ four and one draw.
