Asuka has become one of the most talked-about names in WWE over the past few hours, mainly after the segment she had with IYO SKY on this week’s Monday Night RAW.
The scene, which was highlighted by WWE itself as a farewell between the two Japanese stars, showed Asuka leaving with a suitcase, immediately fueling rumors about a possible retirement or even a quiet release.
However, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the situation has nothing to do with the recent cuts WWE has made, nor with any request for a pay cut. Asuka reportedly asked for time off for personal reasons and is expected to spend a period in Japan.
WWE, according to the report, did not want to lose Asuka from programming for an extended period, but understood the situation had to be respected. Backstage, the former champion remains very well liked, with people inside the company praising her professionalism and everything she has delivered over the past few years.
Another important point is that Asuka signed a contract extension with WWE in 2024. While the exact length hasn’t been officially confirmed, the deal is treated as a long-term one.
The temporary departure comes right after her loss to IYO SKY at Backlash, in Tampa, where the two embraced after the match — a moment many fans had already interpreted as a farewell.
So far, WWE has not announced any timetable for Asuka’s return. In other words, her future remains open, but this is not a release.
