Asuka’s future in WWE remains uncertain following her loss to IYO SKY at Backlash, which took place last Saturday, May 9. The Japanese star left the ring visibly emotional after sharing a hug with her friend, fueling rumors of a possible retirement.

According to Fightful Select, Asuka’s situation has also become a mystery backstage in WWE. That said, sources who spoke to the outlet don’t believe she has wrestled her last match for the company.

Meanwhile, Bodyslam reported that Asuka will be taking time away for an indefinite period due to personal reasons, but denied that it means a retirement or a “semi-retirement” situation at this time.

Now, a new update from Mike Johnson of PWInsider indicates that Asuka is in Knoxville, Tennessee — the city hosting tonight’s Monday Night RAW. The word is that she’s ready to appear if WWE’s creative team decides to use her on the show.

Johnson also noted that there’s a story going around about a possible return to Japan for a family matter, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

As of now, WWE has not officially commented on the former champion’s status. In other words, even if some time off does happen, there’s still no concrete sign that her career is over.
