Bayley is nearing the end of her current WWE contract, but Dave Meltzer doesn’t expect her to leave the company for AEW.
On the most recent Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer went over Bayley’s contract status with Garrett Gonzales. Talking about her future, he said:
“Her deal’s up. I’m pretty much sure she’s not going to AEW. Not 100 sure, but pretty sure, and we’ll see what happens.”
Meltzer discussed the idea of Bayley taking a backstage role in NXT, where she would help develop younger talent. He believes it’s something she could be open to.
“From all I hear, Bayley, you know, it’s a different story,” Meltzer said. “You know, maybe that’s something that she wants to do.”
Meltzer also talked about where Bayley fits in the WWE women’s division right now. He believes WWE is not looking to make her one of the top four women in the division and would rather have her help get other women over.
“They’re not gonna put her in the top four women’s spot,” Meltzer said. “Whether, you know, you could argue she deserves it. She’s really good all around and all that. They’ve got her at a certain slot, and really her slot is to be one of the women to get the younger women over.”
This comes after Bryan Alvarez reported that WWE is looking at backstage changes for NXT in 2027. Any role for Bayley in those changes would come down to her plans for her in-ring career.
Reports on her contract have gone back and forth before. In September, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson disputed Meltzer’s earlier report that Bayley had re-signed with WWE.
On September 11, three days later, Meltzer clarified in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the two sides had all but agreed to a new deal, though nothing had been signed yet.
