Bret Hart ripped the way matches are put together in WWE today, calling out Bruce Prichard by name.
Speaking on Inside The Ropes, the WWE Hall of Famer compared today’s process to the freedom he had during his run in the old WWF.
Hart explained that Vince McMahon usually decided who won, who lost, and in some cases what the finish would be. The rest, Hart said, was often left to the wrestlers themselves.
When it came to today’s WWE, Hart suggested the model has changed too much and pointed to people without relevant in-ring experience as part of the problem.
“Maybe that’s why WWE is having the problem they are…”
Hart then singled out Prichard.
“And Bruce Prichard too, he doesn’t know.”
Hart’s criticism was specifically about how matches are put together. The former WWE Champion said he had a great deal of control over his own matches. Hart cited the Submission Match against Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13 and the Iron Man Match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XII as bouts he helped lay out from start to finish.
Hart also acknowledged that the process didn’t always rest on him alone. Matches with Mr. Perfect and The Undertaker were more collaborative, he said, while Roddy Piper had a major hand in their match together.
Prichard remains part of WWE’s creative structure as Executive Director of the creative writing team. WWE had previously placed RAW and SmackDown under his creative leadership, and 2026 reports continue to describe him as one of the key figures overseeing creative and production for both shows.
