Brody King has once again spoken publicly against Donald Trump, pushing back on criticism from those who believe wrestlers should stay away from political topics.
During AEW’s panel at Squared Circle Expo VI in Indianapolis, King was asked about the overlap between wrestling, art, and political expression. His response was emphatic, as he said it is contradictory to tell wrestlers to “just wrestle” when the current president of the United States is part of the WWE Hall of Fame.
“People want to say just shut up and wrestle, don’t talk about political statements. Our president is in the WWE Hall Of Fame. That’s all I got to say. I don’t care if he wrestled or not, he can go f** himself.”*
“I feel like AEW now, and since its inception, has always been a different product for different people. Someone like Eddie [Kingston] should’ve been signed to a contract 20 years ago. For it to take that long for him to be on a national television product, it’s criminal. But, it’s because he is him and you can’t change that.”
“There’s a lot of people like us that you just — we are going to be who we are. I feel like some people came to AEW thinking that it was going to be something different and they didn’t last, for better or for worse. Some of them have succeeded, some of them haven’t. But the people that are there now want to be at AEW because they want to do the product that we provide.”
King’s comments come amid the attention surrounding anti-ICE chants that have followed some of his AEW appearances. The situation gained momentum on the February 4 episode of AEW Dynamite, where the chants broke out during his match against MJF in Las Vegas.
