Chelsea Green picked up an injury on Friday’s SmackDown in Philadelphia, just five days after winning the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam.
Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline reported that Green was hurt during her tag team match, where she and Tiffany Stratton challenged WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid of Fatal Influence. The nature of the injury remains unknown, and there’s no confirmation that Green will miss any in-ring time.
Green and Stratton lost the bout. Jacy Jayne hit Green with the Rolling Encore behind the referee’s back, setting up Henley and Reid to connect with Fatal Flaw and pin the champion. After the match, Nia Jax and Lash Legend jumped Green and Stratton, with Jax closing the segment holding the WWE Women’s Championship.
Green won the title last Sunday at SummerSlam, defeating Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton in a Five-Woman Ladder Match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship.
On SmackDown, announcer Joe Tessitore introduced Green simply as WWE Women’s Champion, dropping the “interim” label. As of publication, the champions section on WWE.com lists her the same way.
Rhea Ripley, whose injury led WWE to create the interim championship, underwent meniscus surgery this week. Dave Meltzer reported that the internal expectation is for Ripley to return around the 2027 Royal Rumble.
