Chris Jericho knows part of the audience has grown tired of seeing him around, but he believes that will change once his career finally comes to an end.

In a recent interview with Fox News, the former AEW World Champion compared his longevity in the ring to the Rolling Stones, saying different stretches of a long career can bring both love and rejection from fans.

“I think it’s like a great rock and roll band, you know? I mean, the Rolling Stones just put out a new album, and it’s amazing, but the Stones have been 60 years and some of the eras you like, some of the eras you hate, some of the eras you wish they would have gone away, and some of the eras you wish they would have done more, and you’re still glad that they’re here. I think when I’m done, people will be sad that I’m not around anymore.”

Jericho also said many of his critics on social media will only realize once he’s retired that they should have appreciated this stretch of his career while it lasted. He added that his goal remains the same: to make every situation, every opponent, and every show he’s part of better.

The comments come during a new chapter for Jericho in AEW. After nearly a year away from programming, he returned on the April 1 episode of Dynamite in Winnipeg and signed a new multi-year deal with the company.

Since then, Jericho has feuded with Ricochet in a rivalry that wrapped up at Double or Nothing in a Stadium Stampede match, and he’s now dealing with Tommaso Ciampa. At the July 8 Dynamite Beach Break, Ciampa got the better of him in a singles match.

Jericho began his career in October 1990 and has now spent more than 35 years in the ring.
