CM Punk is set to open tonight’s SmackDown, according to TRNBCKL Gold.
The show takes place at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and will be the first episode of SmackDown since SummerSlam.
WWE is advertising the Undisputed WWE Champion for a face-to-face with Kevin Owens but has not confirmed that Punk will open the show.
Punk heads into tonight as champion after a controversial title defense against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. In the closing moments, Randy Orton returned and hit Rhodes with an RKO while the referee was down. Unaware of the interference, Punk hit the GTS and won the match.
Owens, meanwhile, made a surprise return at SummerSlam and was added to a Fatal 4-Way that also featured Finn Bálor, Gunther and Sami Zayn. Owens won the match to become the No. 1 contender for Punk’s title.
WWE has not yet announced when the title match will take place.
Also on tonight’s show, Chelsea Green is advertised and Charlotte Flair will face Jade Cargill.
