Tonight’s WWE SmackDown Opening Segment Revealed

Chelsea Green is set for a prominent spot on tonight’s WWE SmackDown despite being unable to wrestle due to her recent injury.

Per ViperReports, the Interim WWE Women’s Champion is slated to open the 8/14 show, airing from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Green’s appearance is particularly notable given her physical condition. During last week’s tag team match teaming with Tiffany Stratton against Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid, the champion suffered a fractured orbital bone and was taken to the hospital.

Despite the severity of the injury, WWE plans to keep Green on television. As previously reported, she is expected to hold onto the Interim WWE Women’s Championship through her recovery, though she’ll be sidelined from in-ring action for several weeks.

Green captured the title at SummerSlam after WWE introduced the interim championship due to Rhea Ripley’s knee surgery. Before the injury, the champion had also crossed paths with Nia Jax, who attacked her alongside Lash Legend on last week’s SmackDown.

Also tonight, Tiffany Stratton defends the Women’s United States Championship against Jacy Jayne in a match that stemmed directly from the events involving Green and Fatal Influence last week.

SmackDown airs at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on USA Network.
