WWE may be plotting a major shake-up to the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam. If Gunther and Sami Zayn defeat CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event, both would be added to the title match.

The stipulation was announced by Adam Pearce at the top of Friday’s SmackDown, held at MVP Arena in Albany, New York. The Raw General Manager is running the show on an interim basis following Gunther’s attack on Nick Aldis last week.

Gunther then made his way to the ring and said he’s been mistreated since arriving on SmackDown. The Ring General also accused Aldis of acting out of jealousy and criticized the decision to pair him with Zayn, calling him someone beneath his level.

Pearce, however, said Gunther should thank Aldis. He explained that Aldis was the one who kept Gunther from being fired, even after his attacks on Cody Rhodes and Aldis himself.

With that, Saturday’s Tag Team Match at Madison Square Garden now carries direct consequences for SummerSlam. The event airs July 18 at 8 PM ET on Peacock.
