Cody Rhodes, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, revealed that CM Punk is the opponent he would most like to face right now in WWE. The statement was made in a recent interview with ESPN, where the champion admitted that the match, even though he wants it badly, is difficult to make happen.
“All-time dream match… I’d like to be part of is probably myself versus CM Punk, the likelihood of it happening, who knows? Wrestling has gotten more… it’s difficult. I don’t know if he’d want that, and I don’t even know if I’d want it. But I know it would just be really great and be very good for wrestling.”
The comment comes just days after Rhodes and Punk shared the ring on the Monday Night RAW after WrestleMania 42. At the time, Punk hinted that a title opportunity could come at any moment, while Rhodes simply replied: “say when.”
At WrestleMania 42, Rhodes defeated Randy Orton and retained the Undisputed WWE Championship. Punk, meanwhile, lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns in the main event of night two.
Despite the provocation, WWE has not announced any match between Rhodes and Punk yet. However, the champion’s own words reinforce that the bout is, at the very least, on the radar as one of the biggest possibilities for the company’s near future.
