Drew McIntyre, who has been away from WWE since Jacob Fatu beat him in their unsanctioned match at WrestleMania 42 in April, promised he will return. But he emphasized that the return isn’t expected to happen soon because he is still focused on his Hollywood career.
In a new interview with CNN-News18, McIntyre thanked Nick Khan and Triple H for allowing him to take on outside projects and said WWE is still his home.
“I will be back to WWE,” McIntyre said. “You know, WWE’s my home, and I appreciate Nick Khan, Triple H, you know, letting me go out and explore this world. Hopefully it’s beneficial to both worlds. But when the time is right, Hollywood Drew will be back. But the time’s not right quite yet.”
McIntyre noted that while some of the other wrestlers in the locker room are chasing movie roles, he isn’t. He said the opportunities have come to him.
“I mean, again, I’m not chasing it,” McIntyre said. “I know a few of our guys are chasing it. I think Drew McIntyre would say, Drew McIntyre didn’t come to Hollywood. Hollywood came to Drew, and we’re taking it as it comes.”
During his time away, McIntyre filmed the Highlander reboot directed by Chad Stahelski, where he plays Angus MacLeod, the brother of Henry Cavill’s character. He also filmed The Last Druid in Spain with Russell Crowe. Both are expected to be released in 2027.
In recent months, PWInsider has reported that WWE creative had nothing planned for McIntyre due to his Hollywood commitments.
But McIntyre has been teasing his return on social media. He even told Chris Van Vliet that his fitness and agility are the best they have been in 12 years.
McIntyre became the Undisputed WWE Champion back in January after defeating Cody Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell match. Before the hiatus, he was one of the top stars on SmackDown.
