El Hijo del Vikingo has confirmed that he will need to undergo surgery on Tuesday to treat the injury he suffered to his left knee.

In a video posted to his official Instagram account, the current AAA Latin American Champion thanked fans for the support he has received in recent days and confirmed that surgery will be necessary, though he did not detail the exact extent of the issue.

As previously reported here at Wrestling Noticias, the injury happened while Vikingo was preparing to defend the title against EK Prosper on the June 30 episode of WWE NXT. The match was canceled at the last minute, and WWE taped a backstage segment where Keanu Carver attacked the Mexican star to explain his absence from the show.

According to PWInsider and False Finish, Vikingo’s left knee became heavily swollen, forcing him to wear a knee brace while waiting for the results of an MRI.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Vikingo still appeared on the following episode of SmackDown on July 3. However, that match had been taped before the injury, with Vikingo facing Rey Fenix for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship in his WWE main roster debut. Vikingo lost the match.

This is not the first time Vikingo has dealt with knee problems. In February 2024, the Mexican star tore a ligament and injured the meniscus in his right knee, keeping him out of action for seven months. In December of that same year, during his PROGRESS Wrestling debut against Kid Lykos II, he suffered another injury, this time to his left knee.

Vikingo is currently the only AAA wrestler signed to WWE, and his recovery timetable following surgery has not been revealed.
