Ethan Page believes a lot of today’s pro wrestling talent have gotten “more sensitive,” especially when it comes to criticism from social media.
In an interview with TMZ Sports on the Inside The Ring podcast, Page was asked about the level of trust that exists backstage in WWE. He said he thinks it’s safer today than it used to be.
“I think trusting people now is probably safer than back in the day,” Page said. “More people are a lot softer now. Yeah, for sure.”
Page explained his point by pointing to wrestlers who get negative comments from fans and choose to respond publicly. In his view, those stars end up giving too much attention to people who are just trying to hurt them.
“Oh, my God. What? Wrestlers get upset when fans tweet them. They’re responding. What are you responding to fans for? What the hell?” he continued. “Why don’t you respond to the ones that compliment you? Only the ones that hurt your feelings, that tell you the truth, are you giving them attention?”
During the same interview, Page also spoke about the egos that exist in pro wrestling. Staying in character as the self-titled All Ego, he said he actually has the smallest ego in the entire company.
“No one wants authenticity. No one wants genuine honest—nothing, ever,” Page said. “Yeah, I have the smallest ego in all of the WWE. I’m just the only one that wears it on my sleeve.”
Asked whether the rest of the WWE roster would agree with him, Page said.
“No, I think everyone else in WWE is a liar,” he said. “Everybody.”
Page is currently on the RAW roster. In his most recent appearance, on the September 7 episode of RAW, he faced Rey Mysterio and Bron Breakker in a Triple Threat qualifying match for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Breakker won the match and secured his spot in the Ladder Match.
