Add as a preferred source on Google Gunther and Nick Aldis will finally settle their differences inside the ring. WWE confirmed the match between the two for SummerSlam during a kickoff event for the show, held this Sunday at Fanatics Fest in New York City.
The show opened with another confrontation between The Ring General and the General Manager of Friday Night SmackDown. After another physical altercation, Triple H appeared and announced that Aldis will face Gunther at the biggest event of the summer.
The rivalry began during the Night of Champions post-show on June 27, when Gunther blamed Aldis for his loss in the Undisputed WWE Championship match. The two had to be separated and were pulled from WWE programming.
Aldis returned to his role on the July 10 episode of Friday Night SmackDown and confirmed CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes for the title at SummerSlam. Gunther, angry about being left out, attacked the Brit and locked in several sleeper holds, leaving him unconscious.

Last night, at Saturday Night’s Main Event, the rivalry reached its biggest chapter yet. Aldis kept Gunther from winning the tag team match by pulling the referee out of the ring and then hitting Gunther with the championship belt. As a result, Punk and Rhodes defeated Gunther and Sami Zayn, keeping the SummerSlam title match a singles match.
The match will mark Aldis’s WWE in-ring debut. His last match came in 2023, during his run with Impact Wrestling. Over the course of his career, he won world titles in TNA and the NWA.
SummerSlam will take place on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
