Jim Ross had a difficult weekend before AEW Double or Nothing, which took place this past Sunday, May 24, at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
On a recent edition of Grilling JR, the legendary commentator revealed that he suffered a fall before traveling to the AEW pay-per-view, causing him to miss his original flight scheduled for Saturday morning.
According to Ross, the situation was made worse because his phone was not nearby when he fell, making it harder for him to immediately ask for help.
“I fell away from my phone. If I had it with me, I could have gotten a little help.”

“It was not a good travel weekend for me… I was supposed to get picked up Saturday morning at like 6 o’clock. I’ll have a chat with my travel guy regarding that matter. Why would you fly me out at 6 in… pic.twitter.com/hLDRiS61O5
Ross was eventually able to rebook his travel and make it to New York later Saturday, but things did not fully improve. He said that after arriving at the hotel, he laid down on the bed to rest and began dealing with severe back pain, to the point where he could not function normally.
Despite the physical issues, Ross appeared at Double or Nothing and worked commentary for the AEW Continental Championship match between Jon Moxley and Kyle O’Reilly.
The veteran admitted some frustration over only calling one match. According to him, had he known that ahead of time, he likely would have spoken with Tony Khan about making the trip.
Ross, who is currently 74, has been working a reduced schedule in AEW due to health-related issues. He also recently revealed that he has been undergoing neurological testing, though he said he has been feeling well.
